CMS Announces Medicare Legacy Free Day to Test NPI Readiness
Emdeon Business Services will participate in CMS’ Medicare Legacy Free Day for Medicare claim submitters on May 7, 2008. Per CMS’ request, Emdeon will strip legacy identifiers on any dual-use (provider fields containing both NPI and legacy identifiers) Medicare claims that are submitted on May 7th.
Providers who would like to participate in this legacy free day to test their Medicare claims for NPI readiness should submit their claims to Emdeon between 7:00 pm CDT on Tuesday, May 6th (after Emdeon’s last submission window to Medicare payers) and 3:00 pm CDT on Wednesday, May 7th (to make Emdeon’s last submission window that day).
Providers do not need to do anything special or different to participate. Simply submit Medicare claims to Emdeon within the timeframe noted above. Emdeon and CMS strongly encourage you to participate in this test. On the other hand, if you do not wish to participate, please do not send Medicare claims to Emdeon during the time period noted above.
Emdeon was an active participant during the CMS/HIMSS meeting that led to the development of the legacy free day program and was the first clearinghouse to state its intention to participate.
